Battle of Memmingen

Text:

This battle involved 1st Div. of Ney's VI Corps, Gen. Div. Dupont commanding, against various Austrian forces under command of Prince Schwarzenberg. Napoleon regarded the battle as a defeat. Berthier wrote Ney: “His Majesty was pained that you ordered the attack of Ulm with Dupont's division alone, which led to the crushing of two regiments of dragoons and artillery, whatever the courage of the troops might have been.” Berthier to Ney, 13 October 1805, as cited in Kagan, 418, note.
