Battle of Günzburg

Text:

This battle involved elements of Ney's VI Corps, general of division Malher commanding, against various Austrian forces under command of FML Gyulai and FML d'Aspré. In the end the French gained control of the bridge at Günzberg through a combination of Austrian errors and French valor. In Kagan's judgment, by deciding to rebuild the bridge after having destroyed it, Mack “snatched defeat from the jaws of victory” while the French general “Malher employed more courage than intelligence in his attacks.” (Kagan, 409, 408)
